Women’s and Children’s Rights Activist
Taonga Zulu, is a passionate advocate for women’s and children’s rights, with over seven years of experience advancing gender equality and social justice in Zambia and beyond. She currently serves as the Board Chairperson for Young Women in Action, the Regional Young Women’s Network Secretary for ending child marriages in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi under NGOCC, and the Board of Governors NGOCC Youth Representative.
Taonga is a leader in fostering Human Rights centered approaches to advocacy. She champions human rights, economic empowerment, menstrual health management, and mental health support for girls and young women, including teaching them how to make reusable pads and providing culturally sensitive counseling. As a member of the Young Women’s Advisory Council under the Pan-African Alliance on Ending Child Marriage, she contributes to regional strategies to protect vulnerable children and empower communities.
A psychologist in training , Taonga is committed to developing culturally relevant mental health solutions for children and women. Her vision includes establishing a wellness center dedicated to mental health support and advocacy for women and children.
Her work is deeply inspired by various ideals, promoting localized solutions grounded in research, traditions and values. Through her leadership roles, Taonga builds partnerships with Government Leaders, traditional and Religious leaders, young women, children and facilitates mentorship for young women, and advocates for policies that empower Zambian communities.
Taonga is also a graduate of the 2024 Youth Leadership Development Program (YLDP) under Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and is currently pursuing further studies at the University of Zambia.
When not advocating, Taonga enjoys reading, writing, singing, painting, and baking. She embodies boldness, integrity, and a nurturing spirit, continuously inspiring others to work toward a brighter future for women and children.
